Our story

How Washington Roofing works

Washington is a small borough surrounded by its township, and the roofs show it. A downtown that lost part of itself to a large fire in 1962 sits among older village streets and farmland, and the roofs run from steep farmhouse gables with additions to newer houses on larger lots. Roofers who work here learn the houses one at a time.

Winter sets the pattern. Roughly 30 to 40 inches of snow a year and about 45 inches of precipitation, according to the county's statistics, mean ice at the eaves, leaks that show after the thaw and flashing that works loose. Thunderstorms add wind. None of that is unusual, but it means a roofer who knows the area is worth reaching quickly.

Washington Roofing exists for that first call. It answers, listens and passes you on, so that you are not working through a page of unknown names while water drips into a bucket.

Who is on the other end of the line

Who will be on your roof

The number on this site rings at Washington Roofing, a call line. We take down your town, the kind of roof and what you can see inside the house, then pass the call to a single local, independent roofing company that serves your area and can take the job. Its crew carries the ladders, its owner signs the contract, and its name will be on the paperwork you are asked to sign. Nobody who answers our phones goes onto a roof.

New Jersey does not issue a general roofing licence. A company that does home improvement work registers with the state Division of Consumer Affairs as a home improvement contractor, renews that registration each year, and is given a number beginning 13VH. The company we put you through to is a registered, locally based business, and it holds that registration, not Washington Roofing and not this website. Across the Delaware in Pennsylvania the equivalent registration is run by the Attorney General.

Ask for the registration number when you call, or when the roofer phones to book the visit, and it will be read out to you. It stays off these pages because it belongs to a small private business, and we keep that business's details private. Once you have the number, check it with the state before you sign anything, and requirements can change, so check the current rule.

Values

What we hold ourselves to

Describe it once

The first questions are about your town, the age of the house and where water appears. The roofer starts from your answers.

No price over the phone

Published New Jersey cost guides cover a very wide range and none is specific to Warren County, so a figure given before anyone has seen the roof would be a guess.

Urgent and planned are different

A tarp for an open roof and a planned replacement are different jobs. You are told which yours is.

Check, then sign

You are encouraged to ask for the roofer's registration number and verify it before signing anything.

Service standards

Our promises on every visit

  • You are told on the first call that the work is done by an independent contractor and not by Washington Roofing
  • No arrival time or day is promised by this line, because the roofer controls the schedule
  • No price is quoted over the phone; the roofer confirms it on site, in writing
  • No licence, registration, bond or insurance is claimed by Washington Roofing
  • Roofers are asked to give you their registration number on request
  • Nothing here is offered as legal, insurance or engineering advice
  • Reviews are shown only if they are real and attributable

One call and it gets handled.

Most help calls are scheduled the same day when a technician is free, and you approve the price before any work starts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who is responsible if something goes wrong on the roof?

The roofer is. Your contract is with that company, which answers for its inspection, quote, materials, workmanship and any permit it applies for.

Will the roofer I reach actually work in my town?

The call is passed to a roofer who serves your part of Warren, Hunterdon or Morris County, or Northampton County in Pennsylvania. Say your town when you call.

Can I choose the roofer?

You can decline the visit, get other quotes and compare. Nothing obliges you to hire the roofer you are put through to.

Does the line charge for the call?

This line does not charge you. The roofer tells you what it charges, if anything, for a visit before it happens.
